Why do I need this medicine?
This medicine contains Flucloxacillin and Ampicillin.

This combination of Flucloxacillin and Ampicillin is also known as Co-Fluampicil.

Co-Fluampicil is used to treat certain bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin or blood.

This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Co-Fluampicil exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine should be taken on an empty stomach, at least half an hour to 1 hour before meals.

Co-Fluampicil is available as a capsule or oral suspension.

If you are taking the oral suspension, shake the bottle well before use to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure out your prescribed dose.

Co-Fluampicil must be taken at regular intervals for it to be effective. Continue to take this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.

Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of antibiotic. If you don't, the infection will not clear completely.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions (rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes) to penicillin antibiotics (e.g. amoxicillin, cloxacillin, penicillin V, sultamicillin) and cephalosporin antibiotics (e.g. cefaclor, cefalexin, cefuroxime).

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • an inherited disorder that may cause skin or nerve problems known as porphyria
  • history of Flucloxacillin-associated liver disease
as Co-Fluampicil may not be suitable for you.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have have the following conditions:
  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
  • glandular fever (a type of viral infection)
  • blood disorders such as leukaemia (cancer of the blood cells)
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What side effects could I experience?
Co-Fluampicil may cause any of the following side effects: diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and skin rash.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes
  • prolonged diarrhoea, stomach cramps, bloody stools
  • convulsions
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • other antibiotics e.g. chloramphenicol, erythromycin, doxycycline, sulfasalazine
  • medicines for gout e.g. probenecid, allopurinol
  • medicines to treat cancer e.g. methotrexate
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Co-Fluampicil.

Inform your doctor if you are currently taking birth-control pills. Co-Fluampicil may decrease the effectiveness of these pills. You should not stop or start any birth control pills without first informing your doctor. Ask your doctor about using non-hormonal birth control as an alternative while being treated with Co-Fluampicil.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Store oral suspension in the refrigerator, between 2-8°C. Do not allow to freeze. If frozen, this medicine will become ineffective and should not be used . Throw away any unused portion 14 days after opening.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
